Amelioration of Soil by Trees
Abel, N.O.J; Drinkwater, M.J; Ingram, J; Okafor, J; Prinsley, R.T. 1989. Commonwealth Science Council
and Forestry Commission,
Zimbabwe. Spiral bound book 9x9". 95pp. ISBN 0 85092 337 9 English.
These guidelines are for training research and extension personnel in rapid appraisal methods for development
of agroforestry in peasant
land use systems. They are illustrated through reference to a training and research exercise where an
agropastoral farming system in
Shurugwi Communal Area, Zimbabwe, was appraised in 1988. Four principles underlie the methods used:
(1) "interactive research", (2)
"learning by doing", (3) "interdisciplinarity" and (4) understanding access to production
resources.
