Lawrence has more than twenty years experience of research and consultancy in the field of Crop Protection Technology and Plant Pathology for mainly tropical horticultural, field and plantation crops. This experience includes project formulation, administration and management. Lawrence’s special area of expertise is in diseases caused by plant viruses and phytoplasmas and in plant disease diagnostics. He is also interested in how to better communicate research findings and has experience of the development and delivery of extension and training materials for resource-poor farmers as well as MSc and PhD student supervision and teaching. More recently Lawrence has broadened his experience to include food safety and quality assurance systems for horticultural growers to meet the requirements of EU Food Law, EUREPGAP and specific retailer protocols for access to EU markets. Ian Watson has over 30 years experience, overseas and UK, in aquaculture and fisheries development in both small and large-scale developments. He has been involved in the delivery of support services to aquaculture and fisheries: food safety (RSPH Level 3 HACCP), business training, marketing, product development, handling and distribution. He has provided support to institutional strengthening and policy development for government, mainly to Competent Authorities with a focus on fishery product food safety and the application of EU regulations for Third Countries, including dealing with EU IUU requirements. He also has extensive experience of the ornamental fish trade, focusing mainly on the role of ornamental fish collection in supporting livelihoods and ecolabelling of ornamental aquatics. Ian has experience of project identification, development and management, including post-project evaluation. He is involved in a range of research, currently centred on the ornamental fish trade but has previously worked on institutional development for research institutes and on molecular biological techniques for the detection of fish-borne trematodes.

Richard Chivers is a fishery scientist with wide experience of international fish products inspection standards; he has a full knowledge of EU fishery products legislation and has worked with numerous governments in the adaptation of their fish safety legislation to bring it up to the recognised standard for export to the EU. He is also very experienced in the practical application of food safety and quality management systems (e.g. BRC) and is a qualified trainer in both HACCP and food safety. He has worked throughout the UK developing the first national standards for the fishing industry and has acted as a trainer for a period of over 25 years, 12 of those in emerging economies. As a team player, Richard has excellent communication skills and engages well with colleagues and clients.
