Wetland Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use: Yancheng Coastal Marshes

A component of the GEF/Australian funded programme, "Wetland Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use in China". This is the largest international cooperation project dealing specifically with wetlands, that has taken place in China. The project emphasises capacity building in wetlands management departments and nature reserves, developing alternative livelihood strategies for local communities and raising public awareness at state and local planning levels.

Recovery of Wildlife in Zimbabwe following Ground-spraying with DDT for Tsetse Fly Control

Between 1967 and 1990, tsetse flies were eradicated from some 50,000 km2 of land in Zimbabwe largely through the selective application of DDT to tsetse resting sites. Despite this success, the campaign proved controversial because of the potential side-effects of DDT on wildlife populations. This project reviewed the long term impacts of DDT on the environment.
