Lawrence Kenyon

kenyonLawrence has more than twenty years experience of research and consultancy in the field of Crop Protection Technology and Plant Pathology for mainly tropical horticultural, field and plantation crops. This experience includes project formulation, administration and management. Lawrence’s special area of expertise is in diseases caused by plant viruses and phytoplasmas and in plant disease diagnostics. He is also interested in how to better communicate research findings and has experience of the development and delivery of extension and training materials for resource-poor farmers as well as MSc and PhD student supervision and teaching. More recently Lawrence has broadened his experience to include food safety and quality assurance systems for horticultural growers to meet the requirements of EU Food Law, EUREPGAP and specific retailer protocols for access to EU markets. Currently at World Vegetable Center, Taiwan.

Nick Willoughby

Nick Willoughby - Fisheries

Nick is a senior manager of projects relating to the sustainability of aquatic resources, the environment and biodiversity. He has had over 40 years of experience working for a wide range of international donors in the planning, management and field operations of projects in tropical and temperate waters and wetlands. He has extensive experience of leading and co-ordinating international and national teams of development professionals, and in producing high quality reports on time. He has been particularly successful in recent years in turning around major projects at risk of failure under earlier management. He has undertaken long term residential work in Indonesia, Fiji, Malawi and Nigeria, and has worked for shorter periods in approximately 25 other countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean and Europe. His career has been initially as an independent consultant; then as the Fisheries and Coastal Zones Projects Manager for the Natural Resources Institute UK; and latterly as an independent consultant again.

Paul Symonds is a development specialist, primarily in the agriculture, conservation and natural resource management, livestock and rural development sectors. He has worked in a variety of cultures, climates and ecologies on a wide range of successful projects with progressively greater responsibility. For the last 28 years this has mainly been in Africa, helping people and communities improve livelihoods and manage natural resources. Projects and programmes have focused on full participatory analysis of the problems and challenges and developed solutions based on a multilevel response; from the provision of resources and training at the community level to local and regional infrastructure development and local and national policy and legislative review. In all programmes the traditional authority structure has been respected and the wishes of the client state or line ministry have been central. Most recently, he has contributed to the development of the EC resumption of aid to Sudan.
