Besides understanding our being, behaving and believing as individuals and communities, we also need to understand how we fit into the world around us if we are to use its resources wisely. That, too, is a very complex topic. In my work as a natural resource professional, specialised in development forestry, I have needed to use many models of how people relate to their environment. In the same way that I have done with the Octaikon, I decided to devise a graphical model that would encompass the various development ideas I have come across. The diagram below summarises the basic elements:
CLICK HERE to download a Powerpoint presentation (PPS) that will give you an introduction to the Terraikon idea (wait a bit - it's 5.5 mbytes). It will take you about 20-30 minutes to go through the main slides. Note that some of the slides require you to click only once to open the contents automatically. If you go too quickly, and want to restart the animations, right click and return to the previous slide. If text ends with three dots, you need to click to continue. Alternatively, CLICK HERE to download a PDF of the slides. This version does not retain the animations, which help to make understanding the graphics easier, but is much simpler to browse, search the graphics, and print out. The internal bookmarks are retained. You can use in conjunction with the presentation version. |
