bullet2 A089 International Centre for Underutilised Crops (ICUC)

The website states that "ICUC provides expertise and acts as a collaborative institute for tropical and temperate crop development. The Centre was established to address ways of increasing the use of underutilized crops both for food, medicinal and industrial products, and also for environmental improvement." ICUC's objectives are stated: (1) To identify demand-led needs and opportunities for research and development of new and underutilized crops from wild and semi-domesticated species. (2) To develop training courses relevant for the promotion and sustainable production of new crops, to provide professional and vocational development and to develop skills needed for technology transfer through practical participation. (3) To establish and manage information sets on networks of farmers, scientists, traders and users working on new and underutilized crops. This will contain ethnobotanical information and information on underutilized species derived from any source. It will also contain information on ecological and agronomic requirements of the species, and the results of known research and development work.
