bullet2 A074 Practical guide to fodder trees.

(Portuguese title) Guia pratico sobre arborizacao de pastagens.

L.J.M.Vilcahuaman and A.J.Baggio, 2000  Documentos Embrapa Florestas. No. 49, 15 pp. EMBRAPA Florestas; Colombo; Brazil

The TREECD abstract states: "This brief guide, written with particular reference to Brazilian practices, starts by outlining the advantages and disadvantages of using fodder trees as components of silvopastoral systems. It goes on to discuss the various types of silvopastoral systems established in pastures -- isolated trees planted at 20 x 20 m spacing, trees established at regular large spacings (6 x 6, 8 x 10, 12 x 14 m, etc.), lines of trees established 15-30 m apart and spaced at 3-6 m, closely spaced groups of trees (2 x 3, 3 x 3 or 4 x 4 m) of mixed or single species, fodder banks planted at high density (5000-40000/ha). Other topics covered are the problems and solutions to planting trees in a pasture in the presence of livestock, criteria to consider in the choice of silvopastoral system and in the choice of species (including short lists of species suitable for hot or cool climates), and the economic implications of establishing a silvopastoral system."
