bullet2 A044 The Farm Forest Guide

A step by step guide to forestry for farmers

Joe Barry, 2000. Produced by the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority (TEAGASC), Irish Forest Serivice, Department of Marine and Natural Resources, the National Development Plan (NDP) and Irish Timber and Forestry.

The blurb states that.. "Teagasc, in conjunction with the (Irish) Forest Service, has been providing a support service to forest owners and those considering forestry for over a decade. As the needs of these forest owners develop and the numbers of farmers with a forest enterprise increase, this service has been continuously expanded. The Teagasc strategy document - Teagasc 2000 states that 'given the continued restrictions on output from the major agricultural enterprises and the limitation on farm size, new or alternative enterprises have a major focus'. Farm forestry is the major alternative land use option available to many landowners"

The guide is of marginal interest to developing country agroforestry, concentrating on discrete forestry practices in a farming context. However, it may provide useful material.
